Alex Franklyn

Hello I’m Alex Franklyn, thank you for coming to my site. I have a couple of different roles in my life which include over thirty years of experience the mental health fields and writing. I have just finished the creation of my first-self help book which is a self-help book on obtaining and maintaining self-worth. This will be available later this year.

I also write fiction in various genres where mental health does tend have a tendency to make itself known. Please do check my social media links for all the up to date news and posts.

New:

After 30 years of working in many health and social care settings it has not only inspired the fiction books I’ve written but also made me aware of how important self-worth is as a core need. So many times we look at issues at a superficial level and we don’t look at the root cause, that which keeps pushing its way to the surface over and over again. When we fix one thing another pops up and it can feel like a self defeating cycle.

I wanted to take the relevant parts of research, therapy, methodologies of working from various disciplines I have learnt over the years and put them into one book under one model. From my personal, social and professional experiences. I’ve found for many therapies can make little sense if you don’t know what it is the professional is doing or why they are doing it. The ‘trust the process’ I’ve found to be a hindrance not a help as it doesn’t answer the questions: why does this happen to me? how does this happen to me? why does it keep happening to me? and the all important how do I stop it or at least reduce the risk of it happening again?

Many of us are raised in difficult situations that do not provide us with the necessary tools to be able to get the best out of life. It follows a journey that is designed to follow a raising of understanding, awareness to come to the points of how to make different choices. I do believe that in order to take control of a problem you need to understand what the problem is. The same as if you were to fix anything. I hope to try to achieve this in this book as a means for people to take back the power in their lives they may well have not been afforded before. We have all experienced control and coercion in some shape or form some unfortunately to greater extremes than others. Whilst I would say no book is a replacement for therapy every I would say that if you are going through therapy or if you have experienced coercive controlling behaviours this book may provide you with some insights and how to prevent it from happening again in future.

I have the great honour of appearing at the first Wellness Film Festival in Los Angeles 2nd and 3rd May 2026. Selected movies based upon wellness to create awareness and debate. This along side wellness experiences and talks. This includes myself as a guest speaker from my own lived experiences. Please do come and join us!

My abridged book: Plenish your Self-Worth will be available to down load for free on at the end of me session. Full version will be available later this year.

Alex Franklyn: Fictional works: Cleaners Wanted.

As the ambition is to cover every genre this my second book is a gangster comedy/crime fiction that is completely brain candy and of no intellectual nourishment whatsoever. The story is that two men, one in their 40’s John, the other younger in late 20’s Billy (Biben) both work at a warehouse set in London docklands area. This happens to be owned by a female mob boss Ruby who is the main importer/exporter/contact for fencing internationally for other London mobs. They’re just general workers and are in need of extra cash for bills, alimony and just generally having the ability to live. They have a regular pub they go to where the owner Jack is also in league with the female mob boss as a safe place for the employees to relax after work for a pint. Whilst there they meet a man who is basically a contract killer Daniel who’s gone rogue due to the love of his life being murdered. He is out for revenge but requires a clean up crew as he’s now working independently.

John and Billy end up being hired however are completely incompetent to the point that they end up accidentally killing the very people that Daniel is trying kill. It is farcical but through a series of unfortunate events they use their abilities and resources between them to dispose of the bodies. As the story progresses you learn more of how the situation came to be for the character to be involved and the long suffering investigating DI Caulter. Caulter is trying to take down the mob boss Ruby who has no idea what else is going on behind the scenes. As Caulter has his mission to try to bring down the corrupt connections that the London mobs have with the higher echelons in the police force. He believes these have prevented him as a honorable officer progressing in his career. There are some unexpected situations and turns of events that occur in the end that you might not be expecting as to how everything ends as you learn the truer nature of the pub owner Jack and how John and Billy cope with their unusual circumstances. Murders, intrigue, Easter eggs and total chaos it has a story to follow to take the reader towards a situation that they will not be expecting and hopefully it turns out alright for most people in the end…

How did the story come about?

The Empathist is my first published novel with Spellbound Books. The story came about from a discussion I had whilst I was working in one of the many social care sectors over the years. I’d had a discussion with a trainee who was on placement and was of the opinion that there was no need to have personal therapy… I argued that we all have unhealed stuff that will get triggered by the people we work with. I remembered that my therapist retired and my supervisor returned to teaching in a university both within a month of each other.

I said imagine (like many) if you were on medication yourself, if you lost all supports at the same time how it could all go very wrong, if you had a lot of trauma you were also running from… I then thought Ooo… that sounds like an interesting idea for a book! Thus The Empathist was born, which tells the story of a therapist where just this happens and her mind begins to slowly unravel. The point of the story being that sometimes the person you need to empathise with most is yourself, first before other people. You need to know yourself before others, otherwise you take this into your life and start to lose yourself with those whom you work with. This book is fictional and based just upon this concept, but it does go to some very dark places in the character’s psyche…
